Coláiste Mhuire and Ide ags Iosef, Abbeyfeale played against each other in the U16.5 Hurling Schools Coolderry Cup on Friday. The game was in Askeaton and throw in was at 11 o’clock. Seanie Harnett was referee for the early fixture. Thomas Sheahan got Askeaton off to a great start with an early free. Senan O Brien got the opening goal midway through the first half. Abbeyfeale mounted the pressure on Coláiste Mhuire throughout the first half, the score was 1-06 to 1-03 in Abbeyfeale’s favour at half time.
Coláiste Mhuire introduced Callum Ryan at half-time. Thomas Sheahan scored a goal for the 65 early in the second half to put Coláiste Mhuire in front, but Abbeyfeale fought back with a point and a goal of their own. Liam O Cathasaigh created great link play and set up David O’Shaughnessy to score a great point. A free was given to Coláiste Mhuire late in the second half, but the opportunity was denied. The game finished in the narrowest of margins, Coláiste Mhuire 2-07 to Abbeyfeale’s 2-08. It was a great supporting game by both school teams.
